Handcrafted Goods
Practical, affordable, value for money, quality, bespoke carpentry to fit your needs and suit your pocket on the edge of the Cotswolds.
Since 2003 I’ve been designing, manufacturing, building, and repairing doors, windows, gates, cabinets and cupboards. Firstly in my own house and then within my home village and then wider afield. With such a legacy in the business, I understand that being a good Carpenter requires time, patience, attention to detail, and quality materials. These ingredients go into every piece I craft, so everything is original and built to stand the test of time.
A true appreciation of the craft stems from the satisfaction of turning concept into reality. I founded Grumpy Git Carpentry in 2003 initially from need but then as a platform to showcase and sell quality handmade products. Sometimes in today’s modern consumer world it is easy to overlook the practical and enduring nature of wood products. Rarely does a piece of timber respond to machine manufacture. Instead it requires understanding, empathy and a damn good talking to prior to moulding into a finished, aesthetically pleasing form.

A little about me and the process :
I am not a time served carpenter. I am not a cabinet maker and I have no formal qualifications in the field. What I bring is simply a broad range of practical woodworking experience coupled to an empathy and a desire to create and possibly improve upon solutions in timber. The process begins by discussing your needs and how you would like to address them. I then develop a project plan usually with options that we can then discuss and refine to improve my understanding and tailor this to meet your needs and your budget. From there, I move into preparing a formal quotation using quality materials which will provide a practical, durable aesthetically pleasing solution. Once we have agreed this, I will order the materials and prepare them before final assembly and finishing. After the item is finished, it usually requires installation. This might involve removing and replacing something which has reached the end of its working life. The whole process can take anything from a few hours to a few days, depending upon the scale of the task. The process comes to a conclusion with real attention to detail to ensure an excellent finish. This is not a 5 minute "off the shelf" solution. Care and attention to detail are critical at each stage and this attention is what helps the finished product stand out and (subject to the usual routine maintenance and TLC) last a lifetime.
